dear dave,

a good friday.  drawing some more, which is always good.

Felt a little more centered.  Got some important things done and/or settled.

Really great time wednesday with Mer, Kim and Erin (and hexy later).  So nice to get together and catch up.  I love those dinners.

Talked some about bsur, the for rent sign, our FB reunion with everybody, and just all the crazy distant memories of people we worked with.  Mine go way back to the beginning.  It was a kick remembering to tag them all on FB.  There are so many I missed, but it's nice to realize I'm still very much in touch with my favs.

So many thoughts about the end of bsur.  I guess they are better left for my personal diary.  I never saw things working out long term.  I guess I was right.

made today

dear dave,

working on drawings and prints for artomatic.  Planned to get to the corcoran ALL DAY yesterday, but I kept coming up with new ideas at the studio to explore, so I never made it over.

Things going well.  selling prints out of all venues, and having a good time working on Artomatic scheme.

I have a million little things up in the air.  All if/then plans about swapping prints, making shirts, and distributing cards.  Logistics are taking over, and my head starts to hurt.

I finally managed to get most of it down on paper, and that calmed me a bit.  Funny, once I sell a print I need to scramble to replace it.  And right now I just don't have many great replacement options.  Or printing time.

Everything has it's production cycle, and it's hard speeding them up (and they conflict).

Corcoran studio closing soon for a few weeks, Artomatic coming up in a few weeks, and I keep getting reprint requests.

All will work out!

dear dave,

had a great monday after a productive Sunday (and a successful sweet roll baking session saturday night).

Sunday was a print day -- and the studio was nice and quiet.  I worked on a branches reprint that I finished up yesterday.  I'm getting good at them!  This will be the 4th of the season.

Worked on finishing new cards and I don't know what else yesterday.  The days go by fast.

Saturday night: hex and i trekked out to midtown Safeway in the pouring rain to buy MORE hot roll mixes, since that is the only one that carries them.

We followed the instructions to the letter.  Warm not boiling water.  Mix well with flour first.  Not in the water, and not with all the other ingredients that are added later.

Place in warm oven, not hot.

And they rose!!  Hallelujah!  They rose (twice)

And they were yummy!  So we ate them all.

dear dave,

exciting morning selecting a site for Artomatic.

Such a fun thing to be a part of, and always exciting seeing the vast empty space, meeting all the quirky artsy characters, and thinking about how it all will transform into a giant repository of creativity, fun and angst.

it's all ahead, and I love that.  The potential!

Hex and I heard that PEEPS would be on 8, so we rushed there first.  But it was quiet and the layout was all cut up.  We were directed to a large back room that seemed good, so I picked a nice space there.  Then we walked to the other floors, and discovered 9 was where PEEPS would be, and ALL the energy was there (and many of the great spaces taken).  Luckily I found a good one (that I could double up), and we were able to make the switch easily.

SO - I have a huge wall on a good cut-through hallway on the 9th floor where all the action will be.  PLUS -- there is no space in front for somebody to put up a crazy installation last minute.  I should be golden.  Now it's all about figuring out what to hang.  The fun part!

meanwhile, here we sit at the studio, doors open, and not much traffic at all for our afternoon open studio.  Oh well --

It's nice to have the day off printing, but I feel guilty!  So many prints are out in the world now, waiting to be bought.  But now I need more for artomatic.  I can't be content with just hanging the leftovers.

But as usual, the semester is ending, and I need to focus on printing exactly what I need.  NO FLUFF.

Now that I know the space it should be easier.  should be a lot of fun.

2 great sales today!

prepared for Saturday, and worked on some awesome new cards.

Flow is flowing - which is so great.

Another fast day.

Drawing this bird birthday card--and it's a major time sucker. I guess what that really means is that it's a dud. I keep editing it, then going back to the original, then editing the new version, then going back. This cycle has happened at least 3 times.

I really need to move on. I like it just enough to keep working on it, but not enough to consider it done.

Great relaxing day not doing much.

Install at dolchezza last night went really well. Everything looked great, and turned out to be pretty easy. Really happy about that.

So today was a day to rest, clean up, regroup, and think about the next few weeks.

Drew a fun new card.

dear dave,

kind of a silly day today, spent waiting for tonight.

Finished taxes (!!!!!) then prepared for the Dochezza install later tonight (10:15).  I'm anxious about getting everything there and hung, so that pretty much took up the day (feeling anxious)

All will work out great -- Hexy will be there to help.  Im just focused on it, so I'm not much use here at the studio anymore.

Good day Saturday at the Corcoran.  Finished up two prints that I think will round out the collection nicely.

AWESOME day yesterday with Remi in Great Falls.  So nice to be back there with her, enjoying the woods and trails we walked years ago.  I used to take her there ALL THE TIME, then started getting lazy and went to the much closer Rock Creek.

Anyway - it was a great re-discovery, and I plan to return often.  Such a beautiful and inspirational place.
Forgot the "the, but added it later...

another busy day where the time melted away!

Made double Buzz and Trohv deliveries -- cards and shirts for each.  Lots of work pulling them all together--I really had no idea it was going to take me so long.

Everything worked out.  Nervous about pulling prints out of Trohv, but it all worked out very smoothly.

Big push now towards Dolchezza and finishing taxes once and for all.  That is what the next few days will be about

Planned to print tonight, but that didn't happen.  Semester is ending soon, so I'm getting nervous.

Blah blah blah, all the same stuff.

Team Glioblasters HOPE Tee!  On sale now
dear dave,

time goes by so fast.  Sure, I waste a little here and there, but it seems like the days get shorter.

Tonight I am determined to get out of here before 6:30.  I'm always so inspired at this time to keep working.  I get stimulated.  I think that my brain goes into end-of-day mode -- meaning the day is over and I can play.  i don't want to go home yet.  AND/OR I need to finish up all the little things I haven't gotten done yet, and that last hour just flies.

ANYWAY -- today I was busy getting shirts ready for TROHV.  It's going to be a busy couple of days now finishing taxes, prints for Dolchezza, and getting new cards and shirts to TROHV and BUZZ.  Most of the effort will be directed towards Monday night, when we finally hang the show at Dolchezza.

ok - I'm off.  tomorrow is a new day. is my favorite thing on the planet. warning: NSFW

tid-bits form the past

dear dave,

productive couple of days.  Finished up Arts Club, Hope tee, and..... taxes (sort of).  Happy to move FORWARD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Not feeling so talkative, so I'll leave things there.

All pretty good.  Pollo Rico tonight, which is always fun.

Monday, April 9, 2012

dear dave,

still kind of grumpy when I think about work and how things are going and what I have to do.  I don't know.

Anyway, that's all beside the point.  Things will work out - or they won't and I'll just stop.

Had a good weekend with Hexy.  Saturday was rough, trying to bake for Easter sunday.  I really had to idea it was going to be so hard.  The only good thing was that the rolls actually worked out in the end.  And we all enjoyed them Sunday.

Today I'm going BACK to the corcoran to finish up the print I started Friday night.  I really have put in the print hours this spring.  Push push push.  But the results (sales) have been discouraging.  I HAVE to stay positive.  It's all new work, and hopefully will sell eventually.

I'm all over the place here (and in life).  It's a great refection of how I've been feeling lately.

Suck-I'm in such a funk!

It's beautiful outside, and really dark inside (me)

I hate this.

I was even kind of mean to Remi on her walk.

Hopefully the gym will purge me of all this shitty upset over stuff I can't much control.

I tell myself to ride the wave. I'll feel better later.
Wednesday night's bright idea turns into Thursday morning's despair.

Woe is me...

another day,
another late Dave

it's 7:07, and I need to order pizza, let Remi Out, call my mother, go to the gym, and return.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

dear dave,

All I did today was edit.  Then I found myself in an editing k-hole.  It's a slippery slope - and easy to find yourself hating the thing you are working on, editing it to bits.  Suddenly something charming and silly becomes tortured and overwrought.  And thrown away.

Anyway, I worked on cards and shirts.  Dave K was supposed to be coming for a shoot (after many many many reschedules) but it was rescheduled for tomorrow.  That left me time for changing the designs I rushed last night.  But I'm not so sure that time was well-spent.

Also worked on cards, but I'm still very unsettled with them.  Maybe trying too hard to put a square into a circle (or better put: shine a turd).  Sometimes it's better to start over.  I'll probably do that.

MEANWHILE, other more pressing things press....

Monday, April 2, 2012

dear dave,

long time no post.  The end of the week was rough.  i don't know - was the moon in a new phase, pollen bad, tides changed??  Nothing was good (in my head).  I felt so down on myself (and the people around me)  Everything felt shitty.

March came in with a roar and went out with a whimper.  I was getting constant positive feedback, starting new projects, selling prints, and planning new installations and ramping up for FAB sale.

Then I finished projects, stopped selling prints, installed BUZZ, and cancelled FAB(more about that later).

(That's the sound of crickets you hear)  Everything seemed to grind to a halt.

Of course I'm being over dramatic.  But everything just seemed to suck late last week.  I LOVED meeting and shooting Jason, and started a new print saturday.  Yesterday wasn't all that bad.  And it's sunny today.  And I finally got some long outstanding checks.

I need to be hopeful, and just ride the wave.  HA- so easy to say when I'm sitting here feeling better, coffee in hand, fun few days ahead.  Moods are so fleeting.  I am just really really lucky that the dark clouds of depression don't last long.

Really lucky.
