dear dave,

crazy logistics today.  Took venus out, then collected Remi and Hex, then had coffee at the studio, then dropped Remi and sauce cake off in Rockville, then over to Home Depot to get some wood, then back to the studio to work, then back to let Venus out again, then back to the studio to collect painted wood, then back to the corcoran to print the wood.

busy dave!

Still planning to hit the beach tomorrow.  looks like rain is very possible, but we HAVE to go.  to follow through.  to get out of town.  It's all so impossible!

So I'm printing here for a few hours, then back home for leftover pizza, and no remi.  We will miss her tonight!

dear dave,

another night at the corcoran.  fourth time this week - which is pretty something.  determined to keep pushing and working.  Even if it only means a few hours here and there.

Super lame day at the studio today.  I don't know what is wrong with me.  i can't seem to get into gear and work.  All my mind tells me to do is avoid the things I should be doing.  they are not hard.  Some are fun.  i just avoid.  It's fucked up.

I wish I didn't have these restrictive print hours.  They are really getting in the way.  Prints keep selling, and are in demand.  But my time is a big choke hold.  I can't make them fast enough.

Anyway - plans are to still to go away for the weekend, which means dropping off ms. remi in rockville tomorrow.  Another errand.

dear dave,

very unusual to take almost a week off blogging.  I got into a busy bubble - which has slowed today.

Friday was a low.  Prepped for Saturday, but mostly just moped around.

Saturday was good in Hyattsville, but again, hoped for better.  Felt a little bad dragging Hex there all day.  Like the previous festival, there were stretches of time with no sales, which really saps your energy.  Time slows.  Enjoyed being close to the stage, and probably picked up a few more wholesale accounts.  That's a positive.

Afterwards we went up to the 17th street festival as it was closing, and I became super-bummed out that I had chosen Hyattsville.  Seems like the 17th street was much bigger, with more my customer.  All I could do was chalk it up to experience.  Next year I will make the switch.

This weekend we are going to the beach, so I've been working to make up the time printing.  Saturdays this fall are all taken up!

It's like the more I push, the slower I go.  Printed most of Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and feel like I don't have enough to show for it.  All I can do is keep pushing forward.  Turns out the small prints take just as much time as the large ones!

Overall - things are going well.  Sales have picked up a bit, and i made some $ from the festivals.  Stay positive, and enjoy.

dear dave,

This morning's trip to Home Depot (with hexy) sent me down memory lane.  It was like seasonal whiplash.

Walking in -- Pumpkins, mums, cinnamon pine cones.  All these crazy memories flooded back.

Last year's pumpkin score, carving contests, cabin weekend, buying grill, last-minute Christmas tree last year, spring flowers, corn plants, artomatic lights.  So many year-round events remembered through the prism of Home Depot.  It takes us through time.  Hand-in-hand.

I got all warm and fuzzy, walking to the lumber aisle, looking for my single piece of sanded plywood.

Then Hex was all crabby because I took 5 extra minutes going back for a price check.

Nostalgia, warm & fuzzies, sweet feelings > over.

fine - ole- day yesterday.

printed most of the afternoon at the corcoran.  Wood surface not that great, so in the end, I was a little bummed.  Going back today to continue.

Got a lot of wood on a construction site a few weeks ago.  Thought it was a huge score, but now I'm second guessing.  Lots of knots and not so smooth.  Maybe best to buy more? I know the answer.

Sometimes I got so blocked and stuck.  It's all a mind game.  you are either in a problem solving mood / mode, or you are willing to get all tied up in knots, unable to choose a path out.  Focus on the solution, not the problem!  So obvious, but not always practiced.

Right now I'm stuck at looking at problems.  ha - i'm even all set to list them out here.  So much for focusing on solutions!  I need to move forward, and TRUST myself.  Things will work out, and be great.

dear dave,

busy couple of days.  Happy to have today to slow down (and turn my attention to printing)

Mutt & Joe turned out great.  Brought 10-11 prints, and could have really used more.  Everything worked out well though.  Hexy and I were in synch, and Andy was fun to work with.  Fingers crossed that pieces start selling

Friday was spent working on XXX and then preparing for festival saturday.  Pushed all day to get all the shirts made, cards packed, and things prepared.  It was a super intense day.

Saturday was the H st. festival.  After a bummer evening (can't really talk about it), Hex and I went into the day feeling down.  Got there early, and had to wait (hours) for tables.  Got into a fight with Michelle over her moving spaces.

The day went well.  Tons and tons of people, with spurts of sales and interest.  We had a good space, but a lot of competition for attention.  There were 10,000 things going on around us, and bright sun.  Luckily the weather was stellar though.  next year I would make a much bigger display to draw people in.

Loud music, long hours, rough night before, thousands of people.  It was a lot!  At 7 we packed up quickly and hopped in the car.  Both of us were anxious to peel out, away from the crazy scene we had been in all day.

Always fun to count the $ at night.  Actually did better then I had realized.

Sunday was restful.  Slept in, farmers market, studio (sunflower discovery).  Remi in Great Falls, then helped Hexy work.  Pho with Rhodsa for dinner.

Today is a new day, week.  Anxious to move along.

Sunday a.m.

3rd, 4th?  I've lost track of the theft/destruction.  assholes.

dear dave,

i've been all over the place the past few days.  One minute I'm feeling crazed and worried and frustrated.  then calm, assured.  It's a roller coaster.

Hex and I swapped out prints at Buzz last night, and are just about to trek out to Mutt & Joe's to hang the show there.  That will be a great wicket to get through.  hopefully (assuredly), I'll be feeling great about it all in a few hours from now.  Positive and ready to shift focus to Saturday on H St.

All stressed and worried about getting the prints in the car, but I managed to get them in this morning.  The car is waiting at home.  nails are packed.  labels printed.  Let's go!

XXX was the source of a lot of concern yesterday.  Of course!  So expected, but I was just hoping it wouldn't be.  But it was.  Still in progress.  PRAYING that I can get through it gracefully.

UPDATE (6:27 pm)

All worked out!  Rough drive, but great install.  XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX to my beloved Hexy.

xxx working out too.  yay!

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

dear dave,

feeling better - right track.  Anxiety clouds have lifted, and I feel much more secure in my skin.  I don't know why they come (and go), I'm just happy they went.

Good saturday back at the Corcoran printing.  Feels great to be back in that mode.  Structure, movement, progress, action > release, creativity.  All positive things.  Major plus:  tons of open studio time during the week.  That is a H U G E help.  I have big print plans, and a lot of Saturdays will be spent selling.

So my plan: replacement prints > BUZZ > older prints > Mutt & Joe's worked out well.  Going over to BUZZ tonight, and Severna Park on Thursday for the install.  Hex gets so stressed about the distance aspect.  I think it will be fine.

H St. Festival is this weekend.  I'm focused on getting everything together early, so I don't stress Friday.  So I can't say " well, I ran out of time.  I couldn't really do what I wanted. Blah blah blah. "  No excuses.

I have completely tanked on my card (wholesale) project.  Need to get that on track again.

XXX worked out.  Still in progress, but it seems to have righted itself... (?)

dear dave,

so so day yesterday.  Sweating out XXXX.  Waiting to hear.  Still haven't.  I don't know why it feels like an ax, but it does.

Feeling better this morning (A little... goes a long way)

Hoping to be productive today (almost typed "really, then "super", but settled on just "productive")

We'll see how it turns out.

fucking sucks (sunflower theft)

dear dave,

It's all good.  Getting things done, but in same mode.  I'll keep you posted when I slog out of it.  For now, it's my new normal.

Rearranged the studio prints.  It feels put together now (only to take it all to Mutt & Joe's soon!)

Quick stop at buzz this morning to pick up a print and reorganize.  Nice to have hex's help.  Feels like I'm living on borrowed time there.  The "show" has been up for 9 months now.

Excited about all the new PSB material coming.  Fuel for my fire.  Much needed!  Favorite so far is The Way Through the Woods (text below).  Such a classic PSB song.  I just love it.
reminds me so much of young adventures with Sue.

The way through the woods (long version)

They shut the road through the woods
Seventy years ago.
Weather and rain have undone it again,
And now you would never know
There was once a road through the woods
Before they planted the trees.
It is underneath the coppice and heath,
And the thin anemones.
Only the keeper sees
That, where the ring-dove broods,
And the badgers roll at ease,
There was once a road through the woods.

Yet, if you enter the woods

Of a summer evening late,

When the night-air cools
on the trout-ringed pools

Where the otter whistles his mate,

(They fear not men in the woods,

Because they see so few.)

You will hear the beat of a horse's feet,

And the swish of a skirt in the dew,

Steadily cantering through

The misty solitudes,

As though they perfectly knew

The old lost road through the woods.

But there is no road through the woods

dear dave,

I left the blog over the weekend on such a negative vibe!

Things got better over the weekend.  Hex and I had a busy saturday flea marketing and apple picking.  It was nice to just be.

Sunday we had brunch at Metro Dinner, woods with Remi, and another stay-at-home afternoon / evening.  Always right on the edge of going stir crazy and driving each other nuts.  Luckily we didn't go over the line.

Yesterday was Labor Day, but we both worked!  I made progress on the Humane Society drawings, which was good. Last night we made apple slices, and this morning I trekked out to Rockville to deliver them to Jimmy.  She was so happy to have them, all the drama last night about frosting just faded away.

Corcoran opens this weekend.

My show at Mutt & joe will have to go up soon

I need to mail out my card "press packs"

Festivals are approaching

Shirts need to be made.

I will be really excited when my enthusiasm matches up with my to-do list.  I have been dragging for weeks now.  Getting things done, but really struggling.  I'm over all these dark clouds.

Saw a book by XXX at the flea market Saturday and it set my confidence level back 20 steps.  Such a great artist!  Such amazing work!  How can I compete?

There will ALWAYS be better & worse.  I need to press on.
